We die for the right to love and be loved. We die protecting our own, because the law has yet to protect us. We die because we stand up for ourselves. We die to be seen.
I hope that sci-fi will be as boundary breaking that it claims to be and give more queer characters. I want these characters not only for me but also for younger queer and trans youth who need somebody that they can identify with.
As a transgender male, I feel like I’m giving up my chance of ever having kids.
When I found out SCOTUS ruled in favor of same-sex marriage, I was bursting with excitement; so much so that I broke into a little happy dance and felt a twinge of American pride. But I also know the reality of this landmark decision: the fight for actual factual equality ain’t over yet. Not by a long shot.
