But as a transgender male about to start hormone therapy, Youth Radio’s Cole Carman found himself in that exact position. Cole shares his story, as one of the first transmale teens in the country to freeze his eggs pre-transition.

But I was thrown off when my doctor handed me a pamphlet about planning for my future fertility. She asked if I was interested in freezing my eggs before I started taking male hormones.

Teens Try The Pill That Blocks HIV Infection

The FDA has approved a daily pill called Pre-Exposure Prophalaxis, or PrEP, which can reduce the risk of HIV infection by 86%. It’s the first and only treatment of its kind, but the Centers for Disease Control recommends caution when prescribing PrEP to adolescents. They’re waiting for final results from medical trials on young people being conducted in cities across the country.
