Today on The Educated Traphouse Radio we had our first show of the session! We had three juicy playlists from DJ Uniquity, DJ Yahs, and DJ Too-Wavy. We started off the show with a newscast from Valencio and Ashley. Valencio reported the discovery of a skull that a homeless man had found in downtown Oakland. Ashley talked about how despite the fact that recent allegations against Bill Cosby have led to protests, fans will continue loving him.
One trend that’s been making its way from inner-city Oakland neighborhoods into the public eye over the past couple years is the unique dance style known as “turfing.”
Alameda County district supervisor Keith Carson hosted an event at Beebe Memorial Cathedral in Oakland to start public discussion about the violence against young people of color, in response to recent high-profile cases, as well as local protests.

Children’s Fairlyland is a historic amusement park inside the nation’s first wildlife refuge at Lake Merritt, surrounded by bustling downtown Oakland, CA. This unique, urban utopia has attracted guests with its story-book charm since 1950 – including Walt Disney, who modeled his own park after visiting Fairyland. But recently, the park has been overrun with aggressive, boundary-less guests: the fox squirrel.
Youth Radio’s Joi Smith interviewed young people and long-time residents of Oakland for their reflections on police violence in the city.
