Soraya started to like poetry in 3rd grade. Poetry has always stuck with Soraya because it allows her to be whoever she wants to be. It makes her feel good and has helped her become who she is now. When she recites her poetry she feels free. Soraya’s main influences are Oscar Wilde and Langston Hughes. Poetry makes Soraya feel so many different things and it has always been another way to communicate her feelings to others. Soraya is also passionate about poetry because it makes her feel heard and represented. Soraya thinks that without her poetry, life would have been less colorful and less interesting. She also credits her poetry for her public speaking skills and her outgoing personality. You can find her written poetry in her school magazine and see her live at various local shows and the occasional Bites + Beats.
