Today is World Radio Day. And the theme this year is youth and radio. At 14 years old, and through her high school years, Youth Radio’s Bianca Brooks started learning about journalism, and reporting on a variety of issues on many platforms – video, online apps, and radio. She liked radio most of all.
The U.S. Department of Education recently released its 2011 – 2012 Civil Rights Data Collection numbers. The information includes data about enrollment in AP classes, participation in the SAT / ACT, and suspension and expulsion numbers — delineated by race, gender and disability status.

I followed the Trayvon Martin case from day one. I read countless articles, social commentary, and notes on the trial. When the case finally came to a close I was deeply shocked– but not by the verdict.
After watching the Casey Anthony and OJ Simpson trials, I had already guessed Zimmerman would be found not guilty, because the evidence was not “beyond a reasonable doubt.” I was not surprised by the outcome of the case, but rather the reaction it drew from the public.
