Earlier this year, more than 70 media organizations came together to focus attention on the issue of homelessness. Youth Radio was proud to be a part of this effort, shedding light specifically on the experience of homeless young people.
I was 13 years old the night I became homeless. I was fighting with family — that happened a lot — and my mom finally told me to get out. I could tell it was serious this time. So I did.
We die for the right to love and be loved. We die protecting our own, because the law has yet to protect us. We die because we stand up for ourselves. We die to be seen.
