Inspiring Health Panelists

There was a health panel held on March 6th at Youth Radio in the Mind Body and Health Center.

One of the panelists was Jayme Neja.  Her story really impressed me. Jayme told us about her freshman year in high school; failing math classes and cutting school.  After high school, she went to a community college and had to make up five years of math. Then she finally transferred to a university. She said, “people are not always gonna give you a chance or believe in what you believe in.’’

Another of the panelists that I talked to was named Farran Tydenan. Farran was born in Nicaragua and like Jayme, she struggled academically in high school. She said, “If you believe in something you could do it.”

I believe the panel was helpful to teens because it sent out a great message saying that you can do anything you set your mind to, and it’s not about what other people think of you at all. They also talked about taking initiative and broadening your ideas.
