Instagram launched a new ad campaign yesterday designed to help users register to vote, get to the polls, and brag about voting to their friends and family, ahead of the mid-term congressional elections on November 6th.
In a blog post published Tuesday, the photo-sharing social media app announced it’s plan to “make voter registration as simple as possible.”
The campaign will include ads on the Feed and in Stories, all of which will feature links to TurboVote, an online election resource that provides text and email reminders about elections, online voter registration help and other services for free.
TurboVote is powered by Democracy Works, a non-profit that “keeps track of voter registration, absentee, and vote-by-mail rules for all 50 states, so you don’t have to,” according to its website.
“Instagram is meeting users people where they already are—on the platform—to make sure as many potential people as possible are participating in our democracy. There’s no better way to turn interested Americans into successful voters,” said Brandon Naylor, the Director of Communications at Democracy Works.
On the day of the election, Instagram will also offer a virtual “I Voted,” sticker in the app’s camera. According to the blog post, the sticker will act as a link to a Get to The Polls, a website that helps Americans find their local polling station.
And there may still be more election-focussed features to come.
“We’re excited to help our community participate in the upcoming election, and we’ll have more updates to share in the coming weeks,” the post reads.
The campaign premiered one week before National Voter Registration Day, on September 25th.
